ZONING REQUEST FOR REZONE FROM R-A to R-20
(CHECK BACK FOR UPDATES AND CHANGES INFORMATION)
UPDATE: 7/17/2025 - I spoke with Henry Youmans today. The rezone is still under consideration. However, the developer had to postpone because of illness. I was advised to check back with the county at the end of August or the first of September.
It is my assumption that every household in Avendell may have received a notice from Anderson County Planning and Development dated March 20, 2025 regarding the April 8th public hearing to rezone the property butting up on the north side of Avendell from R-A to R-20 to allow single-family residential.
I called the Anderson County Planning Commission back in March and spoke with Henry Youmans. As I learned, the April 8th Planning Commission voted 6-2 to deny the request for rezone. However, the Anderson County Council has the final say. Before another meeting can happen, all property owners within 2,000 feet of the proposed zoning change need to be notified regarding a “Community Meeting” with those choosing to attend along the local builder from Anderson who has plans to put in 17 homes on lots of 20,000 +/- square feet with a price range of $400,000 to $500,000. Once the "Community Meeting" takes place, Anderson County Council can move forward with an additional meeting, open to the public.
If you have concerns regarding this zoning change, I strongly encourage you to attend the Community Meeting (date unknown), and at minimum, the second Anderson County Council meeting (date unknown) .
For more information regarding TMS 164-00-02-126, contact the Planning & Development Office at 864-260-4719. If attending, please note, there is a Clear bag policy.
Please be sure to check back here regularly for updates to events and happenings around Avendell !
